Cloch lighthouse,Gourock

A couple of miles outside Gourock and straight across the Clyde from Dunoon sits the Cloch lighthouse. In busier times when the river carried much more freight, the lighthouse served the shipping community well.

During WW11 a boom was stretched across the river at this point to deter u-boats from getting to the shipyards further up the Clyde at Greenock,Port Glasgow,Clydebank and Glasgow.

The Cloch and the River Clyde would be the final view many an immigrant would have of Scotland. Depatures from Greenock and Glasgow were far to many as the people left Scotland for many different reasons.
